Frequently asked questions

Double Rubs

A double rub is a measurement of a fabric’s resistance to surface abrasion (or wear) – High Double Rubs or DRs help extend the life of a fabric. 8,000 - 12,000 DR = light weight upholstery 12,000 - 29,000 DR = typical standard for residential upholstery 30,000 -50,000 DR = heavy duty upholstery 50,000+ = commercial grade upholstery so choose something you love! Double rub measurements are determined by a mechanized test called the Wyzenbeek Method.

Pill Resistant

The properties that resist the formation of pills or small lint balls on the fabric surface which breakdown the fabric and cause the surface to feel rough. Being pill resistant helps delay the wear or formation of pill thus extends the life of the fabric. Fabric pill is a small lint ball on the surface of the fabric caused by wear of the fabric/fibers

Soap & Water Cleanable

Can be cleaned with soap & water solution without damaging the fabric (follow the cleaning steps here to ensure the life of your fabric).

Bleach Cleanable

Stain Resistant

Resists typical household stains or marks by preventing them from penetrating the fabric permanently.

Liquid Resistant

Prevents liquids from penetrating or damaging the fabrics. Liquids may sit on the surface or pass thru without soaking into the yarns & fibers making up the fabric. This helps prevent stains from becoming permeant thus making the fabric easier to clean.

Fade Resistant

Enhances the time the color stays true by delaying the fading of color from UV rays.

Quick Dry

Fabric does not absorb liquids allowing it to dry in a timely manner.

Anti-Mildew

Fabric has properties which prevent the development of mildew.

How To Clean

Product Information

What are InsideOut Performance Fabrics?

InsideOut Performance Fabrics (IOPF) are the first all-in-one performance fabric that can withstand the elements of the outdoors and all of the messes that happen indoors (perfect for pets and small children!) IOPF pairs superior design with unmatched performance, making it the perfect choice for your home interior, sunroom or outdoor space.

How are InsideOut Performance Fabrics related to Valdese Weavers?

Valdese Weavers has been manufacturing textiles in Valdese, North Carolina since 1935 and is the third largest textile mill in the world. Valdese is known for their top notch design team and ability to mass customize fabrics. Valdese launched InsideOut Performance Fabrics in 2017 as a solution to the marketplace needing an “all-in-one” performance fabric. To learn more about Valdese Weavers, visit www.ValdeseWeavers.com.

What are IOPF made of?

IOPF achieves high performance standards by being constructed with a combination of solution dyed Olefin and a high energy dyed polyester. This combination offers a level of design and style consistent with interiors, but is durable enough for the outdoors.

Is there a finishing on IOPF that is eventually going to wear off?

No! IOPF yarns are inherently stain resistant; meaning the durability, cleanability and fade resistance are permanent for the life of the fabric.

Does IOPF contain Polyfluorinated Chemicals (also known as PFC’s)?

No! InsideOut is completely free of PFC’s (including C6). We are proud to make a product that is safe for your family to live on and is manufactured using sustainable, environmentally friendly practices.

What quality standards does IOPF meet?

All IOPF products are classified as heavy duty residential textiles that are also suitable for use in hospitality and commercial settings. Further, IOPF exceeds all industry standards and testing methods for pilling, seam strength, abrasion and flammability. Every piece of IOPF is inspected for quality prior to leaving our mill.

Are IOPF waterproof?

IOPF will repel liquid, but is not waterproof. IOPF dries fast, but we recommend bringing in any outdoor cushions during heavy rain storms.

How wide are IOPF?

They are designed to be between 54” - 56” average.

Do IOPF fade outside? What about my direct sunlight through windows?

No! IOPF is perfect for the outdoors because it is fade resistant due to the UV properties of the yarns, which also makes it suitable for any room inside that has direct sunlight.

Do you have a product warranty?

Yes, we stand behind our fabrics with a 3-year limited warranty for upholstery and speciality fabrics. To read our complete warranty, please click here.

Where are IOPF manufactured?

IOPF are manufactured by Valdese Weavers, who has been making fabric in Valdese, North Carolina for over a 100 years and employs 900 local residents. We are proud to manufacture our fabrics entirely in the United States and be a 100% employee owned company!

What are the best applications for IOPF?

IOPF meets all upholstery standards for furniture, indoors or out! In addition to furniture, IOPF is a great choice for decorative items such as pillows, curtain, ottomans, headboards, dining chairs and barstools.

What about mold and mildew?

IOPF has properties that prevent the development of mold and mildew, but please be advised that mold and mildew can grow on dirt and other substances embedded in the fabric. Visit our "How To Clean" for instructions on how to remove dirt and other outdoor stains.
